Back before this band started doing Honda commercials and denying they ever did drugs, they were pretty fucking cool. Granted, they are still pretty cool even though they're minor celebrities now a days, but they piss me off when hide away their old catalog and badmouth the old albums like they're embarrassed of them. Personally i think things went downhill right around the time "The Soft Bulletin" came out.
Let us now go back and look at the 1990 version of the Lips. No Hello Kitty pop and no depressing songs about kids having cancer on this record, just some good old mushroom rock with a bizarre fixation on Jesus.

when did the flaming lips ever deny doing drugs? there's a whole scene in "the fearless freaks" of stephen shooting dope and talking about how he pawned all his gear. and their boxed set of early stuff is just called "ACID".
Yeah, but they play it down it down and try to make it seam like the rest of the band had no idea, and all they did was smoke cigarettes. Also in the liner notes of that ACID boxed set, Wayne says he supposedly did acid only once, all the while trashing those albums as embarrassing accidents in their past. Maybe i'm reading too much into it, and they're trying not to encourage young kids to get all fucked up and make bad records.
